Oasis Highland presents open mic night monthly

Rico Doss, the manager of the University of Memphis area Oasis Hookah Lounge has decided to host a series of open mic nights once a month called “The Chill”, which will incorporate live performances via an open mic as well as hookah specials. “Whatever Tuesday is closest to the 15th is the Tuesday we host “The Chill”, the next open mic night is October 18.” Doss said. Located at 663 S. Highland St., the open mic night at Oasis, is a place for anyone in Memphis with a talent to step up to the mic and showcase his or her talent to an open-minded and motivating audience. Whether it be singing, rapping, poetry, or preforming art, everyone is encouraged and welcome to perform live at the Oasis Hookah lounge. Oasis offers free Wi-Fi service, an abundance of hookah flavors, and food and drinks. All are available to members. The membership costs $6, and allows the card holder to visit any of the three locations, Highland, Minglewood Hall, and Germantown Parkway, in Memphis any time the doors are open. The membership also serves as a discount card to a local tattoo shop, Inked. Oasis gets a wide variety of visiting members of all different ages, ethnicities, and culture groups. ni, has been attending Oasis at the Minglewood Hall location, the Germantown Parkway location and the Highland location on a regular basis for the past four years “Oasis is a very comfortable environment where people can express themselves.” McCormick said. “I love it here, the vibes are great, the hookahs are yummy and relaxing, and Tuesday night’s talents are incredible.” [TH(11] There are always feature artists listed on the flyer, who preform [TH(12] for 10 minutes each and the open mic spots are 3[TH(13] minutes long. “We look for everyone with talent,” Doss said. “Singers, rappers, artist, trombone players. We encourage all talents to come and showcase.” “As a local DJ[TH(14] , I support local artists that look to get a light shinned upon their talents,” said Yannick Harris, also known as DJ KynetiK. “Open mic events, especially those at Oasis, are definitely a great way to network and the open mic helps because it pushes an artist into preforming at other local events.” “The networking opportunities that “The [TH(15] Chill” has to offer goes above and beyond sitting behind a computer screen posting your talents online,” host Jayveetheprince said. “By coming and preforming an artist has the ability to open doors he or she never thought possible. That’s why I host. To help those who want a voice, get a voice.” Anyone interested in being a part of the Highland Oasis open mic night, should contact Rico Doss via email at fpdoss1@gmail.com or Instagram @neverwastelife for performance times.
