New Samsung Smart Phone Offers Side Display Screen for Users

Samsung hopes to revolutionize the traditional smart phone with the release of its Note Edge, on Nov. 14, which utilizes a side display screen, and allows people to operate it using only one hand. The Samsung Note Edge has a similar display and operating system as the recently released Samsung Note 4, but offers a separate tool bar display along the edge of the phone. The tool bar is touch capable and allows easy access to important applications on the phone. The side tool bar screen of the Samsung Note Edge is devoted to productivity. By incorporating TouchWiz User Interface, software that enables an LCD screen to be operated by touch, Samsung has made it possible to navigate through the phone without being on the home screen. Mechelle Reliford is the field marketing manager for Samsung Telecommunications America, LLC. It is Reliford’s job to travel to the different cellular retail stores, such as AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint, to provide the employees with training necessary to have when selling Samsung products. Reliford is a trained expert when it comes to knowing the specs and features of each Samsung device. “Samsung was supposed to release both phones at the same time during fall 2014, but decided to push the release date back for the Note Edge to November due to the new feature creating such excitement in the cell phone market,” Reliford said, “Samsung is paving a path for smart phone engineers with this phone, its new software and its second display screen.” The side screen includes shortcuts to apps and widgets such as the camera, messaging and the Internet. Tools are also an option for the side display. A simple swipe could change settings, open a measuring ruler or start a voice recording. When the phone is not being used, the side screen allows the user to receive notifications and displays the time, date and weather. Ricky Rodgers is a 29-year-old employee at Wolfchase T-mobile. Rodgers has experience in selling Samsung devices and said that the Note Edge will bring the consumer closer to the future of cutting-edge technology of tomorrow. “Having the side of the phone tell me the time will eventually eliminate my need for an alarm clock,” Rodgers said, “This phone is perfect for me because it’s innovative and new; nobody will have it, it will be showpiece everyone will want.” Though this invention is marvelous and new, the price is another trending conversation that comes up when discussing the Note Edge with customers. The Samsung Note Edge is estimated to be released at $840 to $946 in the U.S., or $399 with a two-year contract. AT&T customer, Bobby Avant is 21-year-old Senior at the University of Memphis. He said he plans on buying the Note Edge on upgrade with his contract the Nov. 14, when the Samsung Note Edge comes out. “I have been waiting for a while for this phone to come out. “ Avanat said. “Although I hate being on contract, I am lucky to be getting the phone for $400 versus $900 without a contract.” Margaret Sims, 39 year old T-Mobile customer, is not concerned with the price. “You have to pay for what you get.” Sims said. “New technology that no one else has is worth the price, but I don’t know if I’ll like the phone due to the fact that I am left handed.” As a matter of fact, Samsung engineers have planned for this flaw and have come up with a clever solution for all “lefties”. Simply change the settings to where the apps are rotated 180 degrees and turn the phone upside down. The display screen can then be accessed using the dominate left hand. “Samsung is taking a giant step in technology, there will be followers; mark my words, before long Apple and LG will have side screens.” Reliford said. “This is only the beginning.” SB
